The last book I read was The Age of Voltaire by Will & Ariel Durant. This is volume nine of their eleven-volume epic on the story of civilization, to which they devoted a good deal of their lives. This was a reread for me; in fact, I have read the whole set & reread a volume each year, so I have almost read the entire set twice.
It deals mostly with the French Philosophes & how they shaped the thought, political action & anti-religious feeling of the time (the 18th century). Recommend; but it's beefy & scholarly.
